Welcome back to the GC Minute; it’s 2025, and our first epic weekly newsletter for the year!
We sincerely thank you for sharing 2024 with us and look forward to continuing to grow with you all over another energy-filled 12 months ahead.
It’s January 2 🏝️ 😎
‼️ Local Fun Fact: With approximately 2,715 hours of sunshine annually (7.4 hours a day), the GC is one of the sunniest places in Australia.
While it may not rival Australia’s desert regions like Alice Springs or coastal Perth for total sun hours, it certainly outshines many urban areas.
Don’t forget the sunscreen..

The 2025 Gold Coast All-Species Classic is back and will be hitting the water on 18–19 January.
Hosted by the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club, the two-day competition invites anglers of all levels to compete across inshore and offshore categories—or just inshore if weather dictates.
It’s an epic event promoting sustainable fishing, fostering community spirit, and celebrating Queensland’s first-class marine biodiversity.
• $95 entry fee (just $50 for juniors).
• 8 species categories like Mangrove Jack and Mahi Mahi.
• Teams of 2–3 anglers over two days.
The catch-and-release format supports conservation, while clubhouse presentations boost local engagement and camaraderie amongst one of the city’s most popular recreational activities.

Lives Lived Well has celebrated 50 years of transforming lives on the Gold Coast through Mirikai, a renowned residential rehab service.
Since 1981, Mirikai has grown from a modest brick house into a pivotal centre for substance recovery.
This milestone highlights five decades of life-changing impact, offering hope and solutions for those facing substance use challenges.
• 276 people were supported in 2023–2024 alone, with 95% bed occupancy.
• 96% of clients reported improved quality of life, while 98% reduced substance use within three months.
• 97.6% satisfaction is the care result coming from patient surveys.
Fifty years on and following thousands having rebuilt their lives there, Mirikai remains a cornerstone of the local community, leaning on its six to 12-week program that helps equip clients with skills for recovery and reintegration.
CEO Mitchell Giles and staff, including former client-turned-manager Vicky Mouatt, reflect on Mirikai’s inspiring journey.
