World Darts Championship LIVE RESULTS: Action ON NOW as Michael Smith features, Christian Kist hits NINE DARTER – latest

Behind the scenes

A former darts star has revealed what really happens when players go off the stage between sets at the World Championship.

Matthew Edgar, who was known as ‘Prime Time’ during his playing days, reached the last 64 of the WDC in 2021.

Edgar revealed: “What you’re probably wondering is where are the players going.

“Now, it’s quite boring, it’s not exciting back there and I can give you the insight into what it is.

“There is a Portakabin, we’re talking about the Alexandra Palace here by the way, in sort of like a car park area.

“It is cold, very cold! It’s not like a heated VIP room where you go in and can sit down on a nice cushioned sofa. It is cold.

“There is a table there, you can have things on the table if you want. You can have drinks on the table, snacks, that is the place you can go off and have refreshments or do what you need to do.

“And that is it! It is a very cold space.”
