Ten dead as truck drives into crowd in New Orleans

At least 10 people are dead and another 30 have been injured after a truck drove into a crowd on New Orleans’ famed Bourbon Street, authorities say.

NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness agency, confirmed the toll and cautioned people to stay away from the area.

New Orleans police said on Wednesday they were responding to a mass casualty incident, including fatalities.

CBS News, citing witnesses, reported a truck had crashed into the crowd at high speed, and then the driver got out and started firing a weapon, with police returning fire.

“Initial reports show a car may have ploughed into a group of people,” a New Orleans Police Department spokesperson told CBS News.

“Injuries are unknown but there are reported fatalities.”
