These three red-flag symptoms could indicate serious health problems.
It can be easy to ignore small or strange symptoms in our bodies, hoping they will go away with time or turn out to be nothing.
But one doctor has shared three red-flag symptoms that we should ‘never ignore’, and advises you seek medical attention if you are experiencing them.
Doctor Karan Raj often posts health advice content to his 5.3 million TikTok followers, and he recently shared his list of serious warning signs you should never brush off as normal. His video has been widely viewed, with almost 221K likes on the social media platform.
In his video he says that anyone experiencing these symptoms should “go see a doctor, ASAP.”
Here are the three major symptoms he advises you should not ignore if you are experiencing them.
Eye floaters
Eye floaters are dots and lines or flashes of light that appear in your vision. The NHS explains that they’re not usually serious.
The NHS website explains that floaters in your vision can look like:
- small dark dots
- squiggly lines
- rings
- cobwebs
- Flashes look like sudden flashes of light
They’re usually harmless and not a sign of anything serious, especially if:
- you’ve had them for a long time
- they’re not getting worse
- your vision is not affected
Dr Raj says: “We all get eye floaters, and that’s totally normal, but if you suddenly start seeing way more floaters in your field of vision or flashes, go see a doctor ASAP.”
Feeling full after eating small amounts
A sudden change in appetite, whether a loss or increase, can be a sign of various underlying issues, including stress, anxiety, and depression.
But it could also be due to a medical condition, so it’s important to seek medical advice to determine the cause and appropriate treatment.
The Cleveland Clinic states just a few of the medical conditions that can cause a change in appetite, including:
- A common cold.
- An infection.
- Cancer.
- Dementia.
- Diabetes.
- Food poisoning.
- Heart, lung, kidney or liver disease.
- HIV and AIDS.
Dr Raj continues: “If you start feeling full after eating just small amounts, or you notice a change in your appetite over several weeks for no apparent reason, get this checked out.”
Bruising easily
Easy bruising can be a symptom of various medical conditions, including bleeding disorders like haemophilia and von Willebrand disease, liver disease, low platelet count, certain cancers, and even vitamin deficiencies.
Certain medications can also cause easy bruising, but this symptom should be investigated, says the NHS.
The NHS website says: “There are many medications which can cause easy bruising including anticoagulation, antiplatelets, NSAIDS, antidepressants, also the use of long term steroids.”
Dr Raj concludes: “If you notice lots of bruises turning up on your body without any obvious physical injuries, go get this investigated.”
