The horrifying series of assaults were carried out in Varanasi in northern India over the span of a week.
According to the victim’s statement to police, the ordeal began on March 29, when she was allegedly abducted while returning home from a friend’s house.
She was first taken to a café in a nearby town, where the first assault reportedly occurred.
From there, the young woman described being moved between multiple locations, including highways, cafés, hotels, and even a warehouse—each time encountering new perpetrators.
Local media reports state that the attackers worked in coordination, passing her from one location to the next, according to the Daily Mail.
In one incident, she was reportedly offered food laced with drugs by two strangers near a shopping centre, before being assaulted again.
Despite the trauma she faced, the young woman eventually managed to escape and return to her family.
A police complaint was formally lodged on April 4. Authorities have since arrested six individuals in connection with the case, and investigations remain ongoing. Police are reportedly conducting searches at various sites mentioned in the victim’s statement.
The case has shocked communities in the region and prompted renewed calls for strengthened protections for women and swifter justice in cases of sexual violence.
