A four-year-old girl has died in a brutal “dog attack” inside a home where six pitbulls and one poodle mix were found by police.

On Monday, April 14 emergency services rushed to the property where officers found two people unresponsive and attempted to save their lives. The child, identified by police as Evelynn Lopez, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead. The 53-year-old woman, who police identified as Oliva Mora Regalado, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Police have not shared how the pair were related and following an investigation, which included analysis of completed autopsy reports, police have confirmed that Oliva “suffered a medical emergency that occurred from a preexisting medical condition” while inside the house. Police confirmed no criminal charges are expected to be filed in the case.

While at the property on 107 N. Geiger Street officers determined there were six pitbulls and one poodle mix inside the home when the incident occurred. The animals were “sedated and then euthanized on scene” for the “safety of everyone involved and the preservation of evidence,” police said.

The Huntingburg Police Department in Indiana shared a statement which read: “On April 14th, 2025, Huntingburg Police and first responders were dispatched to 107 N. Geiger Street. When police and first responders arrived, they located a 53-year-old woman, later identified as Oliva Mora Regalado, and 4-year-old Evelynn Lopez, unresponsive inside the residence.

“Life saving measures were performed on both subjects at the scene. Evelynn was immediately transported to Deaconess Memorial in Jasper where she was later pronounced deceased. Oliva was pronounced deceased at the residence. The Huntingburg Police launched an investigation into this incident.

“Through the investigation and autopsies, Police have determined that Oliva suffered a medical emergency that occurred from a preexisting medical condition while inside the residence. After this occurred, and for unknown reasons, Police believe that dog(s) inside the residence then attacked Evelynn, who was the only other person inside the residence.

“The juvenile succumbed to the injuries caused by the dog attack. The investigation revealed that there were 6 Pitbulls and 1 Poodle mix inside the residence at the time this occurred. For the safety of everyone involved and the preservation of evidence, all dogs were sedated and then euthanised on scene. The dogs were then transported to Southern Indiana Purdue Agriculture Center for laboratory testing. At this time no criminal charges will be filed.”

An obituary for Oliva described her as a “sweet, kind and gentle” person who “devoted her life to care for those she loved most, her family.” She was also remembered by her family as someone who loved “experimenting on a new recipe” in the kitchen and “enjoyed going for walks and dancing.”
