Comedian Nikki Glaser won widespread praise when she hosted the Golden Globes for the first time in January, largely thanks to her no-holds-barred approach to roasting the celebs in the auditorium.
However, she has claimed there was one A-list guest who was more reluctant to be on the receiving end of her jibes.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the comic said at the Time100 summit that it “got back to” Timothée Chalamet ahead of the ceremony that there were jokes about him in her opening monologue, which apparently left him contemplating whether to swerve that part of the night completely.
“He was just going to skip my monologue and get there late, just so he didn’t have to deal with it,” Nikki said.
“I get it, because he’s there with his girlfriend [Kylie Jenner] who is already the subject of so many jokes. He shouldn’t have to sit there if I’m going to make fun of something about him – it’s, like, his night. So, I don’t begrudge him doing that.”
Timothée was nominated for the Best Actor prize at this year’s Golden Globes for his performance as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, but lost out on the night to Adrien Brody for The Brutalist.
Nikki added that she “loved his performance” in the movie, which only made her more determined to reference Timothée in her intro.
She even claimed to have sent a message to Timothée’s team assuring him that the jokes were “only uplifting him and saying, ‘I’m a huge fan’”, as well as insisting she’d “never do anything to ruin his night”.
In the end, Timothée walked the Golden Globes red carpet solo, but both he and Kylie Jenner made it to their seats in time to hear Nikki tell him: “Timothée Chalamet, you have the most gorgeous eyelashes – on your upper lip. That is such a good look.”
She added: “You were so good in A Complete Unknown as Bob Dylan. I read that your singing voice was so accurate that even Bob Dylan admitted that it was absolutely horrible. You nailed it.”
Timothée has not responded to Nikki’s recent claims, but The Hollywood Reporter’s piece cites a “source close to the situation” who said it was never the Call Me By Your Name star’s intention to miss the monologue.
HuffPost UK has contacted Timothée Chalamet’s team for comment.
Elsewhere in her Time100 summit conversation, Nikki claimed that she sought “permission” from Selena Gomez over a joke about her fiancé Benny Bianco that she felt in hindsight was “pretty mean”.
It’s already been confirmed that Nikki will be back to front the Golden Globes in 2026.
“Hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” she said last month, referring to the ceremony as “Ozempic’s biggest night”.
“I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from The White Lotus who will finally recognise my talent and cast me in Season Four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past.”
