Fishing action returns with the 2025 Gold Coast All-Species Classic

The Gold Coast Sportfishing Club is hosting its 2025 All-Species Classic on Saturday, January 18th, and Sunday, January 19th, 2025.

This two-day fishing competition welcomes anglers of all skill levels to compete in Inshore and Offshore categories, with the flexibility to run as an Inshore-only event if Offshore conditions are unsafe.

The event fosters community spirit, promotes sustainable fishing practices, and celebrates the natural beauty of Queensland’s waters.

With categories spanning both inshore and offshore species, anglers can showcase their skills while contributing to the sportfishing culture of the region.

The competition strengthens local engagement by encouraging participation from both amateur and seasoned anglers.

The event’s focus on photographing and releasing fish supports conservation efforts while promoting responsible fishing.

Additionally, presentations at the clubhouse bring participants together, boosting social and economic activity within the area.

  • $95 entry fee per angler ($50 for juniors)

  • Teams of 2 or 3 anglers competing over 2 days

  • 8 species categories, including Mangrove Jack, Marlin, Flathead, and Mahi Mahi

The competition is unique for its flexible format.

Organisers highlighted safety as a priority, stating: “The competition will commence as an Inshore-only event if weather conditions are not favourable for Offshore fishing. The final decision will be made on Thursday night prior to the competition.”

Anglers can fish using a variety of techniques, including bait, lures, trolling, or fly fishing.

Submissions are made online, and all fish must be measured and photographed on a brag mat with a visible token.

The 2025 All-Species Classic is part of a long-standing tradition in the Gold Coast fishing community.

Events like this one not only bring people together but also highlight the importance of preserving Queensland’s diverse marine ecosystems for future generations.
