The game was briefly offline at 11am this morning as a Hotfix was applied to the system.
Fans of the hit game Fortnite have been patiently awaiting the release of the new Chapter 2-inspired Slurp Rush map for Reload, and lucky for them, an exciting update has just been released.
Fortnite developer Epic Games announced on X that the new Slurp Rush Reload map would be available from today, April 15.
The post reads: “Rift in! A new Chapter 2-inspired map, unlimited Slurp, and double the rush coming to Reload. Tomorrow [April 15].”
Fans can also check out a new gameplay trailer for the bite-sized map, which you can scroll down to see.
In addition to the release of the new Slurp Rush map, Epic Games announced plans to take the game offline in order to apply a Hotfix, reported The Express.
The gaming company took Fortnite offline to apply the Hotfix at 11am BST UK time this morning. So if you were having trouble connecting around that time – that’s why.
“We’ll be taking a short downtime tomorrow at 6 AM ET while we deploy a hotfix,” Epic Games posted on X.
“Matchmaking will be disabled 30 minutes prior.”
Server maintenance typically lasts for around two hours, meaning the game should’ve been back online from around 1pm BST.
Judging by server complaints on website Down Detector, which peaked at 11am, the game does indeed appear to be back online, and one user commented that Fortnite was “back online in the UK”, at around 1pm.
As for Slurp Rush, the miniature map contains eight main features to explore.
This includes Steamy Stacks, LogJam Logging, Fort Crumpet and Boomin Base. That’s on top of Dirty Dock, Stilt-Town, Lockdown Lighthouse and the eponymous Slurpy Swamp.
The new Reload release also coincides with the return of a handful of weapons, including the Combat Shotgun, the Maven Shotgun and the Mammoth Pistol.
The Hotfix releases just a week after the launch of update 34.30, which added Sabrina Carpenter to the game.
Epic explains more: “Global superstar and two-time GRAMMY winner Sabrina Carpenter brings her eccentric brand of pop to Fortnite Festival Season 8.
“Unlock her ‘Juno’ and ‘Nonsense’ Jam Tracks in the Season 8 Music Pass and find more of her tracks in the Shop! That’s that Season 8 Icon, Sabrina: there’ll be a Sabrina Carpenter Outfit in both the Music Pass and Shop.”
In addition to Sabrina Carpenter, the recent Fortnite update introduced an Adventure Time collaboration, which launched last week.
Elsewhere in the gaming world, Sony announced the price hike of its discless PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which will come into effect next week.
The tech giant explained that the current “challenging economic environment” was the primary reason for this sudden price increase, which will come into effect on Monday.
The new price of the discless PS5 will be £430 from next week, a £40 price increase from its previous price of £390.
Sony acknowledged the price hike in a recent blog post, explaining that inflation and changing exchange rates pushed them to make the decision.
