A huge fire has ripped through an empty retail store on a Scots high street.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were alerted to the blaze at the property on Kirkcaldy High Street tonight, Sunday, March 30, at around 8:23pm.

Six fire appliances remained at the scene as of 10:20pm, with multiple police vehicles and an ambulance crew also in the area.

It is unclear at this stage if there have been any injuries as a result of the blaze.

The SFRS could not confirm if any buildings have been evacuated but images show local residents standing out in the street.

Other pictures show police locking down nearby roads, and flames ripping out of the building, with smoke billowing across the road and into the sky.

Posts on social media indicate the fire started in a vacant shop that was once leased by poundstretchers.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted to a fire at Kirkcaldy High Street at 8:23pm. We have six appliances currently at the scene.”

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
