The 30-year-old Eastham airman faces two counts each of rape and photographing an unsuspecting nude person.
A United States Air Force member has been held without bail after appearing in Orleans District Court on rape charges Tuesday.
Airman First Class Nicholas Sweetser, 30, of Eastham, was held for his hearing following his arraignment Feb. 14 for two counts each of rape and photographing an unsuspecting nude person, according to court records.
State Police opened an investigation after they received an investigative report from the Air Force alleging multiple incidents of sexual assault by Sweetser, according to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.
After investigating, State Police obtained an arrest warrant for Sweetser and arrested him without incident Feb. 13, the DA’s office said in a statement.
The DA’s office filed a motion the following day to detain Sweetser as “a danger to the community.” Sweetser was held without bail until Tuesday’s hearing and continues to be held pending the completion of the hearing, court records showed.
Sweetser’s hearing will resume Feb. 21, according to court records. The DA’s office encourages anyone with information about Sweetser to contact state police at 508 790-5796.
