Murder probe launched after man in his 30s dies outside home

A man has died after allegedly being assaulted outside a home on the Queensland-NSW border overnight.

Police were called to a house on William Street in Tweed Heads South amid reports of an assault about 3.15am.

Officers found an unconscious man, 39, laying on the ground outside a house.

Paramedics treated the man, who has not yet been identified, but he died at the scene.

Police believe only one other person was involved.

“We’re not entirely sure exactly what’s happened at this stage, but inquiries are continuing,” acting Superintendent Michael Dempsey from NSW Police, said.

“It appears that there was an altercation at the scene.”

Police have established a crime scene and are investigating with the assistance of Homicide Squad detectives.
