Sixteen volunteers collected 15 bags full of rubbish from the River Forth, in Stirling, including a shopping trolley and a Peppa Pig toy.

Fifteen bags of litter were collected during the litter pick along the River Forth in Stirling

Peppa Pig and a supermarket shopping trolley were among the haul collected during a clean-up effort at the River Forth.

Generous volunteers helped to tidy up the banks of the river in Stirling – clearing up 15 bags of rubbish.

Environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful were joined by staff from the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and Robertson for a litter pick as part of this year’s campaign, which runs from March 21 until April 21.

Amongst the bags of litter collected along the river and surrounding area of the Raploch were a range of items, including a supermarket trolley and a discarded Peppa Pig toy.

The event also coincided with the charity’s Marine Litter Week, aimed at stopping the journey of litter from source to sea.

Heather McLaughlin, Campaigns and Social Innovation Manager at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Every single litter pick, no matter how many people are involved or bags are collected, is another crucial step on our journey to a litter free Scotland.

“We’ve had so much support for Spring Clean from people all over Scotland, and it’s great to see SEPA and Robertson join our mission to keep Scotland beautiful.

“Nine in ten people across Scotland agree litter is a problem, and just days into this year’s Spring Clean it’s fantastic to see so many people taking action.

“We can solve the litter emergency if everyone takes small, simple actions, and I’d like to thank everyone involved in this litter pick for their fantastic efforts.”

The big Spring Clean takes place from March 21 until April 21, and people from all over Scotland are being encouraged to get involved, build community links and make a positive impact on the streets, parks, rivers and beaches we all care about.
