Punter wins life-changing sum from ‘spectacular’ £15 bet as heartbroken bookies admit: ‘They cleaned up’

A RACING punter was celebrating landing a life-changing winner from a £15 bet as heartbroken bookies admitted: “They cleaned up.”

The astonishing double attack came on the opening day of the Flat at Doncaster and Kempton last weekend.

Often a minefield for punters, this bettor made sure it was a day to remember after backing the same four horses twice in two separate bets.

And their decision to opt in to best odds guaranteed meant they pocketed enough in additional cash to put down a house deposit.

The staggering double bet started in dramatic fashion when Godwinson got his head down just in time to land the Lincoln handicap, the feature race of the day.

The finish was so close between William Haggas’ winner and George Boughey’s 22-1 runner-up Oliver Show that the Sky Sports Racing commentary initially called the wrong result.

It went to a photo and Godwinson was declared the victor at odds of 15-2.

Just over an hour later at Donny it was the turn of Destinado to win at 22-1.

The victory was made all the sweeter by the fact the punter backed the horse at 18s but benefitted massively from the drift.

It was over to Kempton then where Habooba claimed the 5pm before the almighty punt was landed for good by Run Of Luck in the lucky last.

Backed at 7-1, the Ed de Giles-trained runner had drifted to 9s before the off but won the 1m2f Class 5 handicap by a length.

The punter’s 50p eeach way Yankee returned a massive £19.191.03.

But their £2 each way accumulator was the true money-spinner, netting a gigantic £55,977.52.

Spokesperson for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “The Flat season certainly began with a bang for one punter as they cleaned up on the racing from Doncaster and Kempton.

“And because they had opted in to best odds guaranteed, it gave them an extra £25,000, taking the total to just over £75,000.

“It looked as though the wager hadn’t even got off the ground in the Lincoln, but Godwinson’s head was down at just the right time and that got things rolling, with the fittingly named Run Of Luck bringing home the bacon with a win in the last from Doncaster to bag a huge return from just a £15 stake.”

This is the second time in little over a week bookies have been smashed by a shrewd punter.

One person’s £20 punt on the all weather at Southwell returned a colossal figure as Ladbrokes were left dumbfounded by ‘one of the best bets in years’.

While William Hill suffered yet more misery on Saturday when one punter landed more than £35,000 from a 96p five-fold each way Canadian bet.

The total outlay of just under £50 returned the huge sum thanks to five winners at Gulfstream Park in the US.
