A teenager has been arrested after a woman was raped in a park.
Police were called to reports of a sexual assault at People’s Park in Banbury, Oxfordshire, in the early hours of Saturday.
Thames Valley Police said the victim, aged in her late teens, had met her alleged attacker at a venue in Banbury town centre.
The man, aged 19, is alleged to have taken the woman to the park before carrying out the sexual assault.
The force are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area between 2.30am to 3.30am.
The victim is being supported by specialist officers following the assault.
Thames Valley Police said it will ensure there is an increase in police presence in the area.
Meanwhile, investigating officer Detective Sergeant Christopher Bennett of Oxfordshire CID based in Banbury, is urging locals to check their CCTV cameras, the Mirror reports.
In a statement, he said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation following this concerning incident. An arrest has been made and we continue to support the victim.
“We are asking anyone who may have seen anything around 2.30am to 3.30am in People’s Park to please come forward, or if anyone has CCTV we would ask them to check if it shows anything that may assist our enquiries.
“Members of the public will see an increased police presence while we continue to investigate.”
The local council says the ‘town’s premier park’ where the attack took place is ‘loved by generations of Banbury families’.
