Thousands of Rangers fans gather for Union Bears ‘street party’ ahead of crunch Europa clash

The Ultra Group had asked fans to “bring the noise and colour” for the Ibrox side’s home quarter-final tie on Thursday

Thousands of Rangers fans have gathered at the Copland Stairs outside Ibrox for a “street party” ahead of their crunch Europa League clash against Athletic Bilbao this evening.

Ultra group the Union Bears had asked fans to “bring the noise and colour” for the Ibrox side’s home quarter-final tie on Thursday – and fans turned up in huge numbers this evening.

The Union Bears organised the street party, which started at 6.30pm, through social media.

Their post read: “Copland Stairs – 10/04, 18:30. Bring the noise and colour.” Meanwhile a banner was on show at Ibrox, which read: “Copland Stairs Street Party 10/04.”

Footage shared on social media this evening showed thousands of fans clapping and singing as they gathered outside Ibrox before kick-off.

Flares were lit while fans chanted Rangers songs and waved flags while jumping up and down.

Police Scotland had previously told the Record they would be implementing a “proportionate policing plan” to “maintain public safety and minimise any disruption” ahead of the match.

Officers could be seen in attendance in footage shared on social media but everything remained good natured on Thursday evening.

The force previously confirmed that were aware fans were planning to gather prior to the match at the Copland Stairs an

d asked for those attending to be “respectful of the local community in the area around the stadium”.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A proportionate policing plan is in place for the Rangers v Athletic Club match at Ibrox in Glasgow on Thursday, 10 April 2025.

“We will continue to work closely with a range of partners, including both clubs, to maintain public safety and minimise any disruption.

“We are aware of a possible gathering of fans ahead of the match at Copland Stairs and continue to liaise with the club.

“We would urge anyone gathering in the area to be respectful of the local community in the area around the stadium.”
